Salzburg – Thursday, October 14th, 2021, 11:59 p.m.

Mensur Suljovic made a tailor-made start at the Darts Home Championships in Salzburg.

The 49-year-old finished the Englishman Adam Hunt on Thursday in the Salzburgarena, to the great delight of the fans, 6-2 shortly before midnight.

In the round of 16, Austria’s figurehead surprisingly does not have to deal with defending champion Peter Wright. The ex-world champion does not find his game against the German Florian Hempel and loses 3: 6.

Suljovic’s clash with Hempel takes place on Saturday, when the “best of 19” is already being played. The winner is sure to have prize money of 20,000 pounds (23,557 euros).

The European Championship will be held for the 14th time this year, and the decision will be made on Austrian soil for the first time. Suljovic’s best performance so far was reaching the finals in 2016. In the latest edition in 2020, he ended up in the round of 16.
