Sofia, the youngest daughter of Jose Bono and Ana Rodríguez, has publicly broken through his networks to narrate, in the first person, the most important chapter in the story of his life: its adoption, what she defines as her “second birth.” A documentary series of three chapters with which Sofía intends to help those people who suffer or have suffered insecurities due to this condition: “Today my struggle begins to show that adoption should not be seen as something traumatic, but quite the opposite, as a second opportunity that life gives you ”.
In the first chapter of this autobiographical series, released on the day of her 21st birthday, Sofía shows unpublished images of the family and tells that her fortune changed after her mother volunteered for a time in India. “When he arrived in Spain, he raised the idea of adoption with my father, who was not very convinced. He was already 50 years old and had three grown children ”, explained the politician’s doubts, which were cleared after visiting a reception center in Bolivia. “Seeing the reality of so many children without families, he decided to take the step. When he left, he called my mother on the phone and said: ‘Ana, present the application and as soon as I arrive in Spain we will process the adoption of a child ”.
The marriage traveled January 19, 2001 to Chile to adopt her fourth daughter. There they would receive a moving letter from the awaiting three-month-old baby, written on their behalf by the caregivers at their adoption center. “Some time ago they left me in this place for reasons that we will never know, but whatever it is, I think God wanted us to meet and take me with you. After spending a month in Chile to finalize the details of the adoption and demonstrate during those days that they were capable of taking care of her, the Bono-Rodríguezes took their fourth daughter in their arms and brought her with them to Spain, where they waited for her with open arms. his three siblings –Ana, Amelia and José-. Such was the emotion that invaded the family with this new addition that the socialist leader also wanted to write a letter in his own hand to Sofia on his first day as an adoptive father. An emotional letter that has now seen the light on the occasion of the documentary.
“Dearest Sofia. I write this letter to you the first day you are with us. Yesterday, when we were going to pick you up, I got a tear of emotion and also of joy. Today, when reading the letter that your caregivers have given us, I have cried a little more. I have also thought that I will be old, but I want to see you grown and see you happy. I already love you like Amelia, Ana and José; and I hope to live to enjoy your love, ”the ex-Defense Minister wrote excitedly, who even gave up one of his bad habits with the intention of enjoying it for as long as possible.
