San Juan supermarkets see it as "positive": "If the big ones don't go up, neither do we"

Local supermarkets welcome the price freeze that will continue until January.

“That this is agreed with the price makers, they will allow the products to reach us without increase. In theory, if the large chains do not raise prices, the rest of us would not have to do so, ”said Mario Gee, representative of the San Juan Chamber of Supermarkets.

In this sense, he said that for a matter of “competition” prices should remain stable until the beginning of next year.

Yesterday, the National government agreed with the main mass consumer companies and supermarket chains to maintain stable prices of 1,247 mass consumer products for 90 days, until January 7, 2022.

The freeze request appears one day before the September consumer price index is released. Projections estimate that the increase for the month will be above 3% again, after the decrease to 2.5% that was registered in August.
