TBILISI, October 14 – Sputnik. The leader of the main opposition party, the United National Movement, Nika Melia, told the protesters in Tbilisi about his future plans. A letter from Saakashvili was read to the protesters in the center of Tbilisi. The third president was detained the day before the local elections, on October 1. Since then, he has been on hunger strike, calling himself a political prisoner, and he assured the audience that a moral victory has already been achieved. “There are more of us than many could imagine,” the oppositionist said. On October 30, Georgia is waiting for a second round, mayors of 20 cities and regions will be elected. Almost everywhere there will be a struggle between candidates from the National Movement and the ruling Georgian Dream party. Melia warned the authorities that if they use the same methods of struggle as before the first round of elections, the opposition will again hold a protest action, and its scale will become even larger … Oppositionists accuse the authorities of intimidating voters, putting pressure on them, bribing. Supporters of the “National Movement”, the party created by Saakashvili, he called on to defend their votes in the second round of elections. Today’s action, he said, should be peaceful, so that “Ivanishvili (ed. founder of” Georgian Dream “) does not even have a desire to resist our victory.” With the completion of Melia’s speech, the three-hour action also came to an end. After the anthem, the participants began to disperse. As for Saakashvili, he will have to spend 6 years in prison for two of the most resonant cases of his reign – the amnesty of the killers of the United Bank of Georgia employee Sandro Girgvliani and the organization of the beating of the then parliamentary deputy Valery Gelashvili. Several more criminal cases are pending in courts. Subscribe to video news from Georgia on our YouTube channel.

The action is held with a demand for the release of ex-President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili from custody. The third president was detained the day before the local elections, on October 1. Since then, he has been on hunger strike, calling himself a political prisoner.

“Nobody will accept the fact that the third president of Georgia is in prison. We will not end the fight,” Melia said.

The oppositionists accuse the authorities of intimidating voters, putting pressure on them, and bribing them.

“We are asked what our plan is. We have the only plan – victory and nothing but victory,” Melia said.
