Prison administration denied information about riot in Rustavi prison

A fire on the territory of the prison has cut off the power supply, and because of this, prisoners cannot contact their families.

TBILISI, Oct. 14 – Sputnik. The Special Penitentiary Service has denied information about the riot in the Rustavi prison No. 17, where a fire recently raged.

The fire started at 14:20 Tbilisi time in the kitchen. In total, 6 fire brigades and 11 vehicles worked on the spot.

Opposition media disseminated information that a riot broke out in the prison and the prisoners took over the prison, locking up the guards.

“This is a complete lie and part of a dirty disinformation campaign, the aim of which is to attack state institutions and mislead society,” the report said.

The service explained that the fire on the territory of the prison is practically localized, but the electricity supply has not yet been restored, and because of this, the prisoners cannot contact their families.

At the same time, it was noted that the prison administration is in full control of the situation, and as soon as the electricity supply is restored, the prisoners will call their families.
