The Plenary of Congress debated this Thursday the new Democratic Memory Law, a text that in the eyes of the left «surpasses the confrontation and deactivate the hate»And with which we seek to« honor »all the victims of the Civil war. In this debate, Martina Velarde, leader of Podemos Andalucía, has supported some of ERC’s claims and has branded Vox and the PP as being “Heirs of the Franco regime.”
«Lords of the PP and of Vox It would be a fantastic opportunity for you to get away from the dictatorship and its crimes, but the content of your amendments to the whole puts you once again as ideological heirs of the most painful period in our history, ”Velarde assured.
Martina Velarde: «Gentlemen of the PP and Vox it would be a fantastic opportunity for you to get away from the dictatorship and its crimes»
Velarde, which has promised to seek a broad agreement, has advanced that it will present amendments to achieve the nullity of part of the Amnesty Law and so that the victims are included until the end of 1982. Velarde has agreed with the socialist Valentin Garcia Gomez in urging the PP to “shake off its original sin” and condemn the Franco regime. TO ERC, García Gómez has told him that his amendment is “unnecessary” because the bill already incorporates a large part of the amendments proposed by the Republicans to the law in force since 2007.
The ERC spokesperson, Gabriel Rufián, has presented its amendment as “a text in legitimate defense of the victims”, has shelled the deficiencies of which, in its opinion, the project suffers and has addressed the “anti-fascist” deputies so that they take them into account.
“The question is not why we are so tough, the question is why are you so cowardly”, Rufián has summarized, for whom this rule is nothing more than “posture” because it does not qualify as “illegal” – only of “null and illegitimate” – the regime arising from a coup, does not include compensation for victims nor open the door to patrimonial claims, it does not allow “Judge the executioners” nor does it indicate “the responsibility of the Church in the dictatorship.”
