Lexus NX, the first plug-in hybrid of the Japanese brand that represents a before and after

Lexus, a pioneer with its sister Toyota of range hybridization, presents its first plug-in hybrid drive in the second generation of its mid-size SUV, the NX. And without losing of course its premium breed.

Although it seems like it has been around our whole life, Lexus is one of the youngest brands on the market today, it was not for nothing that it was founded in 1989. And in these three long decades in general, and in the last 15 years in particular, the brand luxury car of the Toyota Group bet very strongly on the new electrified technologies, which made us so funny in those days, with that they were cars that did not make any noise in electric mode, and so many and so many other characteristics and functions that have been arriving over the years.

The NX, in the process of recharging, as the first plug-in hybrid of the brand.

For this reason, from those first Lexus at the beginning of the 21st century, which gradually became the ‘premium hybrids’ until today, the evolution has been clear, making the Japanese brand a reference in hybridization. But as times evolve, so do the market and the rest of the brands. For this reason Lexus, despite being, together with its sister Toyota, the pioneer at the range level of hybridization, now presents its first plug-in hybrid model, coinciding with the arrival of the second generation of one of its reference models, the NX. In this way, together with the new UX presented last year, its first pure electric, Lexus finishes ‘adapting to the plug’.

Premium in every way

After talking a few weeks ago about the design of the new NX, now it is time to capture the driving sensations, after presenting it to the European press on the intricate roads of Mallorca. And these could not be better, because the hybrid or plug-in hybrid versions of the new NX do not detract, rather the opposite, to the first and successful generation of the model. In this way, the feeling that is perceived as a premium model every time you get into a Lexus, and especially an average SUV such as the NX, does not end there, because then the driving experience begins, which can be summarized, mainly , in a comfort, a control of march and a smoothness both in straight and in curves that now, in addition, is increased in the plug-in versions of the model, which allow us to move in exclusively electric mode up to 76 kilometers, a figure well above the average. competing models in the same segment.
