Edeka. Great irritation for one Edeka-Customers in Essen!

In a branch in Essen-Kettwig had bought a few bottles of apple juice. But even though it is one and the same product, the customer immediately noticed an irritating detail: There is a deposit for one bottle, not for the other!

What’s going on there? THE WEST has contributed Edeka asked.

Edeka in Essen: customer confused about deposit on juice bottles

“Could you perhaps explain to me why you have to pay a deposit and no deposit for an identical product?” Asks the confused customer on the supermarket chain’s Facebook page. “Somehow the logic doesn’t reveal itself to me here.”

Stein also shared a photo of the two apple juice bottles from Edeka’s own brand “Fruchtliebe”. Clearly recognizable: the deposit symbol is emblazoned on one label, and a garbage can is depicted on the other.

It is not news that a new deposit rule will come into force on January 1, 2022, which will also apply to juice bottles. But we are still in the year 2021 and these products should therefore still be deposit-free … right?

Edeka in Essen at a loss: “We don’t know why either”

DER WESTEN asked the Edeka branch in Essen-Kettwig directly. There we were informed: “The new deposit regulation already applies to some juices. We don’t know why either. We only get the products delivered. “

Apparently there is as much confusion here as on the customer side. But even a request to the central Edeka press office could not clarify the deposit puzzle. After another reference to the extended deposit obligation from 2022, Edeka said: “Please understand that we cannot provide any more detailed information on the range of individual stores due to our cooperative structure.”

It remains to be seen whether such deposit irritations will continue to occur in the remaining eleven weeks of 2021 – until the new rules finally come into force.
