What a year for Anna Kiesenhofer!
The shooting star of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo also clears the LOTTERIEN Sporthilfe gala and is named Sportswoman of the Year 2021 after winning Olympic gold in the women’s road bike race.
After the promotion and the incredible success story, it is the premiere title for the Lower Austrian. Kiesenhofer’s star rose in Japan and gave her 1,299 points (138 mentions in 1st place) a large lead over biathlete Lisa Hauser (762 points / 53 times 1st place) and third in the election, skier Katharina Liensberger (641 points / 32 times 1st place).
With 265 votes, this means that Kiesenhofer was voted first by more than half of the voting members of Sports Media Austria. The Lower Austrian is not only Austria’s first female Olympic champion from the cycling camp, she is also the first female cyclist to emerge as the winner in the election for Sportswoman of the Year.
With Richard Menapace in the first election in 1949, Adolf Christian in 1957 and Georg Totschnig in 2005, three cyclists have already won the men’s athlete of the year election.
