Between farm, red carpet and TV shoot
Sonja Kirchberger enjoys her “totally normal” life on Mallorca. In an interview, she reveals why she is now daring a TV comeback.
Actress Sonja Kirchberger (56) returns to TV. From October 13th she can be seen in the twelve new episodes of the ZDF series “Bloody Beginners” (every Wednesday, 7:25 pm). A comeback that might not have come about without the corona pandemic.
The 56-year-old has lived and worked in Mallorca for many years. Together with her Argentinian partner, who is 15 years her junior, she fulfilled her dream of having her own restaurant and farm. Not only does she grow her own vegetables, but she also produces her own olive oil.
Further projects are being planned
“The restaurant and agriculture had a long priority. I was a career changer in both areas and it would not have been possible to commit extensive productions”, Kirchberger explains her screen break in an interview with the news agency spot on news.
But then Corona and the associated rules did not allow them to open the restaurant. At the time of filming, the restaurant was closed. “That’s why it was actually much easier for me in terms of time to commit to such a long-term production as the series ‘Bloody Beginners’.” Further projects are also being planned.
The couple has now leased the restaurant. “It was my passion to create new recipes and, with that, to cultivate the fields. Of course it was not an easy step, but economically a sensible decision,” explains the actress.
“I covered a lot of kilometers on the red carpet”
Kirchberger has been with her partner for over eight years. “We live very withdrawn and currently enjoy leading a totally normal life. We live with nature and that means that nature predominantly makes the schedule for us,” says the actress, describing her everyday life on the Balearic island. “Working out in the field alone is not enough. Sometimes I spend days preserving, pre-cooking, storing and preserving.” When she tried her first self-harvested carrot, it was like a kind of time travel for her. “The sweet taste and smell reminded me of my childhood.”
But with all this down-to-earth attitude, doesn’t she sometimes also miss the glamorous life and the red carpet? “As soon as I miss it, I accept invitations again,” explains the TV star. “But I’ve covered a lot of miles of red carpet in the past and every step was fun and will do it again in the future.”
