São Paulo announces Rogério Ceni's return as coach after Crespo's resignation

Former goalkeeper returns to contract valid until December 2022

Rogério Ceni is back in charge of São Paulo

Hours after announcing the departure of Hernán Crespo, the São Paulo reported late afternoon this Wednesday, 13, the return of Rogerio Ceni as head coach. The former goalkeeper’s bond lasts until December 2022. This is Ceni’s second stint as a coach, the first was in 2017. Idol of the crowd, the former Flamengo coach has already made his first contact with the squad and should lead the team against the Ceará, this Thursday, 14. “We needed to make a quick decision, and, in line with our line of reasoning and the diagnosis of the entire football department, the correct option was Rogério Ceni. I had already made it clear that, in the event of a vacancy in the position, he would be our first alternative, if he were free on the market. As good as São Paulo is, he didn’t need more than 15 minutes to make this trip home”, said President Julio Casares to the club’s official website. As a coach, Ceni won four titles for the strength (Series B, Northeast Cup and two Ceará Championships) and four with the Flamengo (Brazilian, Brazilian Super Cup, Guanabara Cup and Campeonato Carioca). São Paulo’s organized supporters, Independente, said during the afternoon that they would only accept the former goalkeeper as coach again if he apologized.
