A new edition of the Hockey Pro League has started and the Belgian women were immediately allowed to compete against Olympic champions the Netherlands. Even with a lot of fresh forces, Orange turned out to be a size too big for the Panthers.
The Netherlands has been the leading country in women’s hockey for years. It is not for nothing that it is the reigning European, Olympic and world champion.
But before the start of the Hockey Pro League, the Netherlands also wants to give some new, especially young, players the opportunity to prove themselves. That opened the door for perhaps a first official victory ever for the Red Panthers against the Netherlands.
After exactly 1 minute, those ambitions already got a blow. The Netherlands was helped in the saddle with a goal from Welten. Belgium also had a few chances in the first quarter, but then faded away. In the last quarter Moes recorded the final score.
The Panthers will play again next weekend, both at home against Germany on Saturday and Sunday.
