From around 6 p.m., the police reportedly received messages from several people that a person was moving with a weapon in the center of the city. Øyvind Aas, the Kongsberg police chief, said at a press conference on Wednesday evening:
“I can confirm that several people were injured and killed.”
The injured are now in the hospital, the perpetrator has already been arrested and taken to the Drammen detention center. The arrest came shortly after 7 p.m. According to the current state of knowledge of the police, the man proceeded alone. The reasons for the crime are currently unclear. According to the police, it is currently too early to answer the question of whether it could have been an act motivated by terrorism.
