Lucinda Brand wins Fayetteville World Cup after Marianne Vos collapse

In soaked conditions on a slippery track, the field was almost immediately apart with Vos taking the lead early on. The Dutchman seemed to think it was a bit too early for a solo from the start and let Brand and Denise Betsema make the connection.

Yet Vos and Brand soon drove away from the rest together. The duo built up a nice lead, with Brand taking the most initiative. However, she went down at the beginning of the fourth lap, so that Vos again took the lead solo. Due to a bicycle change by Vos, the leading duo was soon reinstated and the two entered the last round together.

At the beginning of the final round, Vos lost contact with Brand. The Jumbo-Visma rider simply seemed burned out and was even overtaken by Betsema, who finished second behind the unapproachable winner Brand, and the home rider Clara Honsinger. She even fell off the stage because of this.

Last weekend the first World Cup was held in Waterloo. Then Vos won for Brand and Betsema.
