Félix Bolaños and Teodoro García Egea meet "to deal with the renewal of constitutional bodies"

The Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, held a meeting this afternoon with the general secretary of the PP, Teodoro García Egea, to deal with the renewal of constitutional bodies. This has been confirmed by government sources to Cadena SER. After the meeting, in addition, both have been summoned to continue talking in order to reach an agreement.

The meeting took place hours after the Government showed its willingness to speak “today” about the renewal of constitutional bodies, picking up the offer launched this morning during the control session of Congress by Pablo Casado, when he offered the renewal of different bodies except the Council of the Judiciary. The Government has considered it “a rectification” of the PP.

The Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, in statements in the courtyard of Congress, has insisted on renewing “all” the pending bodies, which would include the governing body of the judges, which has been on the way for three years with an expired mandate. The intention of the Government, according to Bolaños, was to recover the negotiation that had been stranded for several months.

“Welcome the PP to the law and the Constitution”

“We are delighted that the PP seems that today, finally, has rectified its blocking position” and advocates “to comply with the Constitution.” “Welcome the PP to the law and the Constitution,” Bolaños celebrated. The minister denounced that the “blockade of the PP is an institutional anomaly and what the Government wants is that, as soon as possible, these institutions function normally”. Therefore, he insisted on the commitment to negotiate “all, not only those that today the PP wants to renew”.

What the PP wants to renew

After Bolaños’ words, PP sources stressed that Casado “has always been in favor of speaking with the Government and unblocking the renewal of the constitutional bodies” and stressed that “it is Sánchez who has always responded to Casado by insulting the PP” .

From Genoa it was highlighted that the renewal of the Constitutional Court, the Court of Accounts and the Ombudsman can be negotiated, while the renewal of the CGPJ “can also take place, as Casado has always said, as long as we advance in the reinforcement of judicial independence based on European standards, as requested by judges, the EU and the vast majority of Spaniards “.
