The New Shepard spacecraft, developed by Jeff Bezos’ company Blue Origin, has a special guest.
That guest is William Shatner, the famous actor who played the legendary Captain Kirk in Star Trek.
SPACE TRAVEL OF CAPTAIN KIRK
The 90-year-old master actor’s space journey began in the evening. Shatner launched into space from Texas.
Shatner was accompanied on today’s flight by ex-NASA engineer Chris Boshuizen, clinical research entrepreneur Glen de Vries, and Blue Origin VP and engineer Audrey Powers.
GOING TO HISTORY
Famous actor William Shatner became the oldest person to go into space after a flight that lasted for about 10 minutes.
The spacecraft, which rose to an altitude of 106 kilometers on the trip, made a successful parachute landing in the desert near the same region.
The flight, which was scheduled for yesterday, was delayed until today due to strong winds.
“HOW EXTRAORDINARY TO BE PART OF THIS BEGINNING”
According to AA’s news, in the video shared by Blue Origin before the launch, Shatner said, “We are only at the beginning of the road, but how miraculous this start is. How extraordinary to be a part of this start.” He expressed his feelings in his words.
US-based space tourism was carried out for the first time on July 11 by British Businessman Richard Branson, owner of Virgin Galactic, and 5 people accompanying him, and 9 days later, Jeff Bezos made a short space trip with his own company’s capsule.
SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk, became the third organization to participate in space tourism with its special expedition last month.
