Kapfenberg – Wednesday, October 13th, 2021, 9:15 p.m.
Basketball runner-up Kapfenberg Bulls started the FIBA Europe Cup (Group A) with a clear defeat on Wednesday evening.
The Obersteirer had to admit defeat to the German representative BBC Bayreuth in their own hall with 70: 100 (37:49).
Thus, the Viennese Raoul Korner decided the duel between the coaches with his immediate predecessor as the head of the Austrian men’s national team, Mike Coffin, clearly for himself.
Bulls lagged from the start
Bayreuth was ahead of the game from the start, the Bulls quickly found themselves ten points behind. The best phase of the home crowd at the beginning of the second section was immediately countered by the Upper Franconians and again set themselves apart in double digits.
After the break, the guests were completely safe. In Kapfenberg’s attack, Justin Briggs in particular held up against it with 21 points.
Top 2 create promotion
In the parallel game of Group A, the London Lions won at Donar Groningen (NED), who defeated the Swans Gmunden in the qualification, with 79:60 (39:22). The British are Kapfenberg’s next opponent away from home next Wednesday (9:00 p.m. CEST).
32 teams in eight groups of four take part in the regular season of the FIBA Europe Cup. The top two in each case reach the second round, in which four pools of four teams each are formed. Kapfenberg is participating in the continental club competition for the fifth time.
Defeats also in the Alpe-Adria-Cup
Also in the Alpe-Adria-Cup there was no sense of achievement for the Austrian teams.
The Klosterneuburg Dukes were defeated in Happyland by the Slovak representative Spisski Rytieri with 55:72 (31:37), BC Vienna had to admit defeat to the Slovenian club KK Sencur with 67:86 (26:39). Both for the Lower Austrians (group C) and for the Viennese (group B) it was the first defeat in their second appearance.
