SAMUEL PATY – Gérald Darmanin called on Wednesday, October 13 the prefects to “total vigilance” more particularly “in and around schools”, two days before the commemorations of the assassination of the teacher Samuel Paty, there is a year.

In a tweet, the Minister of the Interior refers to a telegram sent to the prefects and consulted by AFP, in which he underlines that these commemorations will take place Friday and Saturday “at the time when the trial of the attacks of 13 November 2015 at the Paris courthouse and in the more general context of the entry into force of the law (…) confirming respect for the principles of the Republic (law against separatism, editor’s note).

“Our vigilance must therefore be total. It is important to prevent any act that could be committed in response to this attack and these commemorations ”, writes Gérald Darmanin. The Minister adds that the “Sentinel forces, in connection with the military authority, could usefully be mobilized near schools”.

On October 16, 2020, the history and geography professor Samuel Paty, aged 47, was stabbed and then beheaded, in a street near the college where he was teaching in Conflans-Saint-Honorine (Yvelines), by a radicalized Chechen refugee who reproached him for having shown caricatures of Muhammad in class. The 18-year-old assassin was killed shortly after by police.
