It finally seems to be running smoothly again for ex-cyclist Jan Ullrich! After his crash, he apparently left the shadows of his past behind and was not only able to finally sell his villa in Switzerland, the 47-year-old also seems happy privately.
Drugs, alcohol and financial problems: Jan Ullrich (47) struggled with all of these for a long time. The man who was celebrated as a hero on the bike during his career and was Germany’s most successful rider for years. Then in 2006 the crash: After doping revelations, Ullrich’s career as an athlete was ended from one day to the next.
A health crash followed, which bottomed out in 2018. In a podcast with cycling legend Lance Armstrong (50), Ullrich made it clear just a few weeks ago how bad things were for him during this time. “I was on the same path as Marco Pantani – almost dead,” the 47-year-old recalled. Marco Pantani († 34), also a successful cyclist, was convicted of doping and died in a hotel room in 2004 from a cocaine overdose. A fate that Jan Ulrich was fortunate to be able to avoid. He owes this, among other things, to the therapy he entered into in 2018.
Jan Ullrich needed time for himself
Since then, Germany’s only winner of the Tour de France has been quiet. “I slept for three years and needed the time for myself. But now my brain is clear again, my body is fit,” said Jan Ullrich in an interview with Lance Armstrong. “I drink a lot of water, have not drunk alcohol for three years and do not take any drugs either. I live very healthy, my girlfriend cooks for me,” added the 47-year-old. Financially, the former top athlete should be doing significantly better again.
As “bild.de” reported, Ullrich was finally able to sell his Swiss. The house has been available for sale since 2017. Jan Ullrich is said to have received around 3.3 million for the house in which he himself lived for 13 years.
Jan Ullrich found great love in Elizabeth Napoles
He is also still happily in a relationship with his partner Elizabeth Napoles (37). The Cuban and Jan Ullrich have been a couple since 2018. At that time, the 37-year-old got to know his loved one in the middle of his drug swamp and love them unconditionally. That this love is mutual is shown above all by the fact that Elizabeth accompanied Jan through the difficult time and, in addition to the therapy, helped him back to life. In the 2,500 soul village of Merdingen near Freiburg, the two now lead a quiet life.

From summer 2018, one headline about former cycling star Jan Ullrich will be followed by the next. He’s withdrawing completely – until now! Now the 47-year-old speaks for the first time and speaks about the “very difficult phase” that he has to go through.
For a long time it was quiet about ex-cycling professional Jan Ullrich, who had gone into therapy last year after an alcohol crash and an alleged argument with an escort lady in a luxury hotel in Frankfurt. Now the 45-year-old could come back to the public – and on a large scale.
In the spring of this year it became known that ex-bike star Jan Ullrich and his wife Sara separated after 13 years of marriage. What followed was a remarkable crash. “My heart is broken, my knee is broken. I am a wreck,” Ullrich told the magazine “Bunte” at the time.
