The public broadcaster NRK has reported at least four dead and several wounded in Kongsberg, by an attacker who has used a bow and arrows and who has already been arrested, according to Reuters reports. The police are investigating it as a terrorist act, although they have not yet detailed the official number of victims.
The head of the region’s police operations unit, Øyvind Aas, has explained that according to the information available to them, the detainee has acted alone and has traveled various zones attacking various people.
Several police units, including helicopters and a group of anti-explosives specialists have been mobilized and the Kongsberg municipality has set up a reception center for those affected and mobilized a crisis team to deal with the situation.
From the Ministry of Justice and Public Security of the Nordic country they are “closely monitoring the situation”, they have confirmed, although at the moment there is no more official information.
Kongsberg is a city of 28,000 inhabitants located in Buskerud county, located in the south of the country, one hour west of Oslo and is the most populated in the eastern region. It is known for being the headquarters of Norway’s largest defense company, Kongsberg Gruppen.
This event comes on the tenth anniversary a massacre perpetrated by the extreme right Anders Behring Breivik and Utøya that left 77 dead.
