The third round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells delivers some surprises.

Petra Kvitova, ranked number seven, has to say goodbye to the hard court event in California, which is endowed with over eight million dollars. The Czech is defeated by Victoria Azarenka (BLR-27) 5: 7, 4: 6.

Azarenka (picture) surprisingly meets her unseeded Belarusian compatriot Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the round of 16, who throws Simona Halep (ROU-11) 7: 5, 6: 4 out of the competition.

The 19-year-old US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez fights Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (RUS-9), while the 23rd Canadian finished with a 5: 7, 6: 3 and 6: 4 in the top 16.

Continuing without losing a set, number two seeded Iga Swiatek storms into the round of 16. The Polish takes off Veronika Kudermetova (RUS-25) 6: 1, 6: 0. Shelby Rogers (USA) doesn’t give Irina-Camelia Begu (ROU) a chance at 6: 0, 6: 2.
