The long-time AfD co-chairman Jörg Meuthen no longer wants to run for the top position in the new election of the party executive in December. This emerges from a circular that he sent to the members of the party on Monday.
In the general election, the Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) lost 10.3 percent of the second vote. In 2017 it was still 12.6 percent of the vote.
The federal spokesman for the AfD, Jörg Meuthen, is now drawing conclusions. He will no longer be on the list at the election party conference in December. The 60-year-old AfD politician was considered the spokesman for the AfD’s bourgeois camp.
Meuthen announced his withdrawal from the AfD leadership via email. He did not give his reasons for the decision, but emphasized that he wanted to continue his political work.
