The Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro wanted to watch a game of his favorite club Santos in the stadium, but apparently nothing came of it. The unvaccinated politician had to stay outside – at least he claims.
The football game against Grêmio Porto Alegre was the first of FC Santos that spectators have been admitted again since the beginning of the corona crisis. However, the Santos FC, eight-time Brazilian champions, insisted that entry only be granted to those who had been vaccinated or who had a negative PCR test.
“I wanted to watch the Santos game, but they told me you had to be vaccinated,” Bolsonaro said in a video posted on the news portal’s website Metropoles has been published.
Bolsonaro, who does not want to be vaccinated because he believes that he has enough antibodies after a COVID-19 infection, encourages others to follow his example. However, it remains unclear whether Bolsonaro, an avid fan of FC Santos, actually tried to get into the stadium, or whether his video is another high-profile action against corona vaccinations.
A spokesman for FC Santos merely stated that the club had not been approached by the president’s entourage and that all fans had to comply with the country’s hygiene regulations.
