a 4.3 magnitude earthquake It shook the island of La Palma last night at 10:46 p.m., with an epicenter in the municipality of Villa de Mazo and a focus at very deep levels, 39 kilometers from the surface, according to the National Geographic Institute (IGN) on its website.
The earthquake has been felt in several municipalities of La Palma. The IGN assigns it an intensity of III-IV (between “weak” and “widely observed”), on a scale with a maximum of XII and in which, below V, movement is considered not to have generated any damage.
Since that earthquake, there have been 40 other earthquakes in La Palma, all with epicenters in the municipalities of Villa de Mazo and Fuencaliente and foci at medium or high depths (the hypocenter of the shallowest was located 10 kilometers below the ground).
Regarding the magnitude, eight have offered values between 3.1 and 3.3, all with an epicenter in Fuencaliente and foci at depths between 11 and 36 kilometers. Only one of them has been felt: the one that was recorded at 7.26 hours, with magnitude 3.3 and a focus at 13 kilometers deep. The IGN assigns it an intensity III (“weak”), after verifying that it has been felt in some localities of Los Llanos de Aridane, Villa de Mazo, Santa Cruz de La Palma and El Paso.

The third laundry
The third week of the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano, whose lava already affects an area of 525.77 hectares (33.02 more than the previous day), keeps the emergency services very aware of the new wash that runs north of the main one, because it can destroy areas that had been safe in the first days.
There is also concern about the change in the wind, which threatens to make La Palma airport inoperative again. Despite the new landslides of the cone yesterday, it is not expected that the new lava flows will change the trajectory that they are already following on the surface.
According to the latest report from the Department of National Security of the Government of Spain, three weeks after the eruption began, the crater emission centers are still active.
The constant effusive activity has expanded the flows to the north, continuing its descent towards the Todoque area, which had not been affected by the main flow. Thus, at present there are two branches in the north stream: the south, which has joined the previous stream, and the north, which is located in the industrial area of Los Llanos de Aridane.
The latter is the object of special vigilance due to the possibility that its route may vary. And it is precisely in that area where the neighbors have returned to spend another hard night, due to the uncertainty of the laundry, but also due to the continuous noises and explosions.
According to the European Copernicus service, there are 1,281 buildings affected. Regarding the cultivated area, there are 132 hectares with damage. About the ash column, reached a height of 3,500 meters yesterday.
Despite the improvement in the meteorological conditions of the last hours, this Monday a turn to the west component of the wind is expected between the levels of 2,500 to 5,500 meters, which will cause a displacement of the ash plume that could affect the operation of the La Palma airport.
The emission of sulfur dioxide (SO2) continues to register high values, consistent with the eruptive process, and far, for the moment, from the maximum permitted thresholds in terms of air quality. And as for the lava delta or fajana, continues to extend its surface and advance into the depth of the sea until placing his forehead on the head of a marine canyon.
