The popular Netflix series The Squid Game it has gained millions of followers around the world in recent weeks. In fact, from the platform they bet on the new title as the candidate to lead the statistics of views.
And it is that thousands of people have echoed in social networks of different frames and moments of The Squid Game, although also of its similarities with other movies or series.
It is the case of @markcannatarofilms, a Canadian content creator who has merged the popular Korean series with one of Pixar’s most iconic animated films: Toy Story.
The author’s recreation illustrates one of the most viral moments of The Squid Game, when participants play Red Light, Green Light. In the video of the Canadian creator, however, the protagonists of the action are the toys of Toy Story. From the cowboy Woody to the aliens in the movie’s pizzeria, the cast of participants encompasses virtually every character in the animated saga.
The final twist also hides reminiscences of the Pixar film when, at the end of the animation, Sid, the main antagonist of the first installment, appears. In this case, the Canadian author’s message is similar to that of the animated filmography: the one who hides behind the suffering of the toys is the same child who, in the first film, experiments with them for his own personal enjoyment.
It is not the first time that moments and scenes of The Squid Game with elements outside the series. The aesthetics of the title have been widely commented on by relating elements common to several generations: the participants ‘tracksuit, the guards’ masks (emulating the buttons of the mythical console Play Station Sony) up to the comparisons with the program Yellow Humor, which aired in Four for several seasons.
