The head coach of the Slovenian national football team Matjaz Kek commented on the absence of forward Artem Dziuba in the Russian team. His words are quoted by TASS.
The specialist stressed that in the last meeting of the teams, Dziuba caused a lot of problems for the Slovenes, and was glad that the footballer would miss the upcoming match.
In addition, the coach of the next rival of the Russian national team assessed the teams’ chances of winning. “By some odds, Russia is the favorite of the upcoming match, but we don’t recognize the favorites, so we hope that the Slovenian team will achieve a positive result,” he explained. Keck added that the game of the Russian national team in the match with Slovakia, which took place on October 8 in Kazan, cannot be considered bad, because the Russians achieved a victory (1: 0).
On September 20, the head coach of the Russian national team Valery Karpin announced an expanded list of players to prepare for the October matches, including Dziuba. However, the footballer refused an invitation to the team, citing poor physical shape.
The national teams of Russia and Slovenia will meet as part of the selection for the 2022 World Cup in Maribor on October 11. The meeting starts at 21:45 Moscow time. The previous match between the teams took place on March 27, 2021 and ended with the victory of the Russians with a score of 2: 1. Dzyuba scored both goals for the national team.
