The National Council of the CDS-PP approved the convocation of the 29th Congress of the party for the 27th and 28th of November, with 64% of votes in favor and 29% against, an official source of the party told Lusa.
According to the same source, 145 councilors (64%) voted in favor of the proposal presented by the board, against 65 councilors (29%) and 16 abstained (7%).
Also the regulation of the magna meeting and the regulation for the election of congressmen were approved at today’s meeting of the highest body between congresses.
The National Council of the CDS-PP has been meeting by videoconference and behind closed doors since around 11:00 am, to analyze the results of the local elections and schedule the 29th Congress of the party, which will be anticipated.
Candidates for the leadership of the CDS are the current leader, Francisco Rodrigues dos Santos, and the centrist MEP and president of the district of Braga, Nuno Melo.
Organizing Committee approved
The CDS-PP National Council approved today the constitution of the Congress Organizing Committee (COC), which will be chaired by the party’s secretary general, Francisco Tavares, the party’s official source told Lusa.
The composition of the COC of the 29th Congress of the CDS-PP received 174 votes in favour, 14 against and 36 abstentions, according to the same source.
The list, to which the Lusa agency had access, is headed by the secretary general of the party, Francisco Tavares, followed by deputy secretary general João Pinto Campelos, and also Diogo Carvalho and Luís Machado.
Tomás Amaro Monteiro will be the representative of Popular Youth, Amélia Mestre of the Federation of Christian Democratic Workers and Pedro Teixeira of Tendência Esperança em Movimento.
Also part of COC Pedro Magalhães, through the candidacy of Nuno Melo, and Filipa Correia Pinto, through the current leader, Francisco Rodrigues dos Santos.
