Marko Cortés warns that electricity costs will increase after electrical reform

MEXICO CITY.- The electricity reform of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador will increase the costs of the light throughout the country, affirmed the elected national president of the PAN, Marko Cortés Mendoza.

Through a statement, he reiterated that the initiative is “destructive and regressive”, since in addition to the negative impact on the cost of electricity supply for the population, It will affect investments, productive chains, economic activities, job creation, exchange rate and the environment.

“We reject this electricity reform because we are defending the economy and the health of Mexicans. We are protecting families so that they do not pay for the broken dishes of this bad government. The consequences that this initiative will bring to Mexico will be very serious and irreversible. I dare to say that it is the most destructive proposal that we have known in many governments ”, he asserted.

Marko Cortés, national leader of the PAN

Cortés Mendoza, recalled that from the first moment the reform was announced, “we do not hesitate to reject it”, because it goes against the generation of better electricity supply options for citizens and companies, the reduction costs, competition between generating companies, and a clean future for the next generations.

“At Acción Nacional, we are committed to clean and cheap energy for the benefit of the people, we promote the participation of individuals in the generation of electricity, we support new investments and the generation of jobs in the energy sector, in order to sustain the competitiveness of the country before the international community ”, he indicated.

He added that turning the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) into a monopoly for power generation will imply the cancellation of contracts with private providers for more than 1.6 billion pesos, the destruction of investments, and the payment of billions of dollars in severance payments, not to mention that there will be continuous blackouts, closures of industries and loss of jobs.

“The solar panels that many Mexicans and many small and large businesses use daily to have clean and cheaper electricity that the government does not provide will be eliminated. Homes and Mexican businesses would have to eliminate their clean and cheap sources of electricity supply to connect back to the grid and receive dirty and expensive energy, ”he explained.

Finally, he warned that the proposal is contrary to the international commitments assumed for Mexico, for which he expressed his confidence that the opposition parliamentary groups “will make the best decision by rejecting this very harmful counter-reform. for the country”.
