Pope Francis considered this Sunday “scandalous” that countries spend “huge sums of money” in armaments while proclaiming peace at international summits.
In a message released on the occasion of the 60th March for Peace, which travels through the Italian cities of Assisi and Perugia, Francis emphasizes that “care is the opposite of indifference, of discarding, of violating the dignity of others, that is, of this ‘ anti-culture’ based on violence and war”.
The Pope lamented that, “even today, after two cruel world wars and many regional wars that have destroyed peoples and countries”, there are States that “still spend huge sums of money on armaments”.
it’s scandalous”, he declared.
All of this “while peace is being proclaimed at international conferences, diverting the attention of millions of brothers and sisters who lack what is necessary to live or who drag themselves into an existence that is unworthy for man”, he added.
