Milan – Sunday, 10/10/2021, 10:40 p.m.
The winner of the UEFA Nations League is France! In an exciting final, the 2018 world champion beat Spain 2-1.
In a game at a very high technical level, little happens in the first round. Only Karim Benzema for France (6th) and Marcos Alonso for the Iberians (37th) cause some danger.
Both teams then complete the second half with a slightly more open visor. But it only gets really wild after a good hour: First Theo Hernandez fails for “Les Bleus” on the lower edge of the bar (64th), in direct return Mikel Oyarzabal wins the duel against Bayern defender Dayot Upamecano and brings the Spaniards with one placed shot in the lead.
The equalizer is not long in coming, Karim Benzema takes the ball at the sixteen corner, pulls to the middle and flicks the leather wonderfully into the long cross corner (66th). It is then up to superstar Kylian Mbappe to score the winning goal. From a suspicious position he moves towards Unai Simon, loads the keeper by stepping over and slides in for the 2-1 winner (80th).
Oyarzabal again missed the greatest chance of equalizing, Hugo Lloris parried his volley in the final phase (88th).
The French take over from Portugal. The team around superstar Cristiano Ronaldo had won the first edition of the final tournament 2018/19.
