History must not be falsified

During an exchange with descendants of protagonists of the Algerian war, the French president had notably estimated that after its independence in 1962, Algeria was built on “a memorial rent”, maintained by “the system. politico-military ”. Words that had provoked the anger of Algiers who had, in response, recalled the same day its ambassador based in Paris and the next day closed its airspace to French military planes.

“The return of the Algerian ambassador to France is conditioned on respect for Algeria, total respect for the Algerian state. We forget that it was once a French colony. It is a standing state with its army, its economy and its people […]. History must not be falsified ”, declared the Algerian president.

Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s statement comes a few days after that of Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra. On October 5, the head of Algerian diplomacy had indeed declared that the “foreign partners” of Algeria and several African countries “needed to decolonize their own history”.

“They [les Occidentaux] need to free themselves from certain attitudes, certain behaviors, certain visions which are intrinsically linked to the inconsistent logic carried by the supposed civilizing mission of the West, which has been the ideological cover used to try to pass crime against the humanity that was the colonization of Algeria, the colonization of Mali and the colonization of so many African peoples, ”he added.
