The rains have left at least 31 dead and 2 missing in Guatemala during 2021, in addition to 1.40 million affected, according to a report released this Saturday by civil protection authorities.
According to the statistics revealed by the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred), during the rainy season that began last May to date, a total of 866 incidents have been registered, including floods and landslides.
The official report explains that the majority of deaths have been registered in the southern department of Suchitepéquez (6), and in Quiché in the northwest (5).
In the departments of Sololá (northwest), Guatemala and Alta Verapaz (north), three deaths were registered, respectively, while in Escuintla (south), San Marcos (southwest) and El Progreso (east) two were reported in each.
While in Chimaltenango, Sacatepéquez and Quetzaltenango (west), Baja Verapaz (north) and Chiquimula (east) there is a deceased, respectively.
