The popular omen, according to which a “very red” mountain ash is a harbinger of a frosty winter, is untenable. This was stated by the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand during a press conference at the Izvestia Medical Center.

“For 100-110 years, biologists and I collected data on when there was a red mountain ash and whether it led to frost. It turned out not. There were warm winters. Such trust in omens is unfounded, ”said Wilfand, refuting popular belief.

The meteorologist added that the omen that after a cold winter there will be a hot summer has not been confirmed either.

Earlier in the weather center “Phobos” the Russians were promised weather anomalies in winter. Forecasters said that the most significant anomalies will be observed in southern Russia, in the upper reaches of the Ob, Yenisei, as well as in the north of the Far East. Experts noted that this year, despite global warming, the process of ice melting has stopped in the Arctic.
