Deceuninck-Quick Step took part in the Coppa Bernocchi for the first time, because the course was the ideal preparation for the Tour of Lombardy.

Remco Evenepoel had no intention of just warming up his legs for Saturday’s race. On the Piccolo Stelvio he took off with 5 other riders: Thibaut Pinot and the Italians Battistella, Covi, Masnada and Puppio.

In the peloton, mainly Ineos, with Hayter as leader, tried to keep the lead within limits, but with a moped like Evenepoel in the leading group that was an impossible thing.

Evenepoel had seen enough at 40 kilometers from the finish. He completed the last laps around Legnano solo. In the end he drove Pinot and co at almost 2 minutes. The peloton was stopped for a moment, so that Evenepoel could double them, another example of his supremacy. After Rik Van Looy (1957 and 1958), he is only the second Belgian on the honor roll of the Coppa Bernocchi.
