The large-scale investigation of the Pandora papers by the international consortium of journalists (ICIJ) turned out to be information about the offshore companies of the family of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and his entourage. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the Organized Crime and Corruption Research Center (OCCRP).

According to the Center, the Aliyevs and their associates have owned 84 previously unknown offshore companies registered in the British Virgin Islands since 2006. Thus, Ilham Aliyev’s son Heydar acquired the first offshore company while still at school, and the president’s daughter Arzu became the owner of an offshore company at the age of 19. “At least eight of their companies have received multimillion-dollar infusions of money from extensive money laundering and transfer systems previously uncovered by OCCRP,” the center said.

It is clarified that in recent years, some of these offshore companies have been closed, and part of the property owned by the Aliyevs has been sold. The Guardian lists the £ 400 million worth of British property sold, with one of the properties being sold to the British crown. As of 2017, the Aliyevs transferred about $ 191 million of real estate to a secret fund created and controlled by the president’s father-in-law, the Center notes.

Earlier, The Guardian, citing the “Pandora dossier,” said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy transferred part of his shares in an offshore company to a close friend who is currently working as his advisor. We are talking about the transfer of 25 percent of the shares.

On Sunday, October 3, ICIJ investigators uncovered offshore deals of more than 100 billionaires, 35 world leaders and 400 government officials. Journalists call the incident the largest offshore data leak in history. The dossier includes reports from over 600 journalists from 117 countries. They analyzed data from more than 11.9 million files received due to the leak.

Later, a representative of the ICIJ, based in Washington, said that new “big” names may appear in the “Pandora dossier”. The appearance of new names in the investigation, including world leaders and high-ranking officials, is not excluded in the coming days. In total, journalists study 12 million documents that came into their possession.
