The sovereignist candidate Nicolas Dupont-Aignan denounced on October 3, by kicking off his presidential campaign, the “imposture” of Emmanuel Macron, “the puppet of the system”, that he wants to “prevent from deconstructing the France”.

“In 2017, Emmanuel Macron played the role of the new man. […] The sham was total, ”he thundered. The 2022 presidential election will be “the last meeting to prevent [le président sortant], a puppet of the system, to deconstruct France, ”Nicolas Dupont-Aignan also announced in front of sparse troupes at the Cirque d’Hiver in Paris.

Because the president of Debout la France (DLF) had invited his activists to come without a health pass, which forced him to stick to a gauge of 500 people, in a room that could contain 1,500.

After deciding to go it alone in 2022, the DLF chairman faced a wave of departures from his party. A hundred executives led by his former lieutenant, Jean-Philippe Tanguy, joined the orbit of the RN in 2020, denouncing its “strategy of isolation and division”. Jean-Philippe Tanguy even became deputy director of the campaign for Marine Le Pen. Nicolas Dupont-Aignan also lost in December the support of the former yellow vest Benjamin Cauchy, ex-candidate for the European elections, party to join Eric Zemmour who maintains doubts about his candidacy.

“Who can save France?” Asks the sovereignist

And on October 1, two young DLF executives published a column in Current values to call on the young people of the movement to support the candidacy of the polemicist. “Politically isolated, without funding, with too few activists and recent polls which place it at 2%”, Nicolas Dupont-Aignan “will not reach the second round”, they write.

“Who can save France?” asked the candidate during his meeting, using his campaign slogan (“Save France”). “Joan of Arc!” Launched an activist in the room. “I do not wish my fate, even if some dream of it,” replied the deputy for Essonne, who is running for the third time in the presidential election.

The claimed Gaullist attacked Emmanuel Macron, who “divides and reigns”: the “yellow vests against traders, the vaccinated against the unvaccinated, the sick against the caregivers”, he listed. He then said he was “proud” to have voted and demonstrated against “the health pass of shame”. He also quipped on “the extraordinary Parisian record” of the socialist candidate Anne Hidalgo, and on environmentalists, whom he described as “useful idiots of savage globalization”. He finally attacked the right-wing candidate Xavier Bertrand “stricken with amnesia”.
