The plane was on its way from Milan to the island of Sardinia. The cause of the plane crash is not yet known.

All occupants were reported to have died in the crash. According to the Italian newspaper La Republica, the pilot, a crew member and six passengers, including a child, are involved.

Romanian businessman

According to Italian media, the plane was piloted by Romanian businessman Dan Petrescu (68). His wife (65) and a son (30) were also among the victims. The other victims have yet to be identified, but a young child is believed to be among them.

With an estimated wealth of 3 billion euros, Petrescu, who is also a German national, was one of the richest people in Romania. He headed a large construction group and owned large supermarkets and shopping centers.

Gesis

Eyewitnesses tell local media that they were startled by a loud hiss and a loud bang, the explosion that caused the crash. A man who saw everything happen says that the plane did not make any remarkable maneuvers, but does believe he has seen a burning engine. Other residents also reported that one of the aircraft’s engines caught fire and that the aircraft then plunged into a nosedive.

11 minutes

The crash on the roof and part of the facade of the property immediately caused a huge fire. Miraculously, this is an office building where renovation works are taking place and which is completely empty, so there were no casualties.

It is not yet clear how the crash with the plane, a Pilatus PC-12, could have happened. It crashed just 11 minutes after takeoff, which may indicate acute engine problems. Emergency services are currently on the scene. “The blow was devastating,” Carlo Cardinali of the Milan fire brigade told the Ansa news agency. “So far we have only been able to find one body.”
