The US Navy has created a new destroyer task force, Greyhound, that can be quickly deployed in the Atlantic to counter Russian submarines. It is reported by the USNI News portal.

The fact that the destroyers will fight Russian submarines, said the commander of the US Navy surface forces in the Atlantic, Rear Admiral Brendan McLain.

“The ships will be ready to carry out a whole range of tasks, including tracking Russia’s underwater activity in the Atlantic and defending our country’s territory from the sea,” he said. The task force will be based at US Navy bases Mayport in Florida and Norfolk in Virginia. It will be on full combat readiness by June 2022, according to McLain.

The group will include the destroyers Donald Cook and Thomas Hudner. In January 2022, the destroyer Sullivans will join them, followed by Cole and Gravely, and the Donald Cook will go for maintenance.
