The greatest of earthquakes, occurred at 03.26 hours, had a magnitude of 3.2 and occurred in the southeast of the municipality of Tazacorte
The 24-hour monitoring volcanic surveillance network of the National Geographic Institute (IGN) has recorded overnight on the island of The Palm a total of 45 earthquakes with magnitudes between 0.9 and 3.2 on the Richter scale.
The largest of the earthquakes, occurred at 03.26 hours, had a magnitude of 3.2 and occurred in the southeast of the municipality of Tazacorte. This event was felt by the population in The Plains of Aridane, Step, Tazacorte and Small.
The rest of the seams, located mainly in Fuencaliente, occurred between 10 and 1 kilometers deep. The last of them, of 1.6, took place at 07.05 hours at about 8 kilometers deep and at the epicenter in Fuencaliente.
Also, this Friday they were registered in The Palm a total of 31 earthquakes between 0.9 and 2.6 magnitude. None of them were felt by the population.
The Scientific Committee of the Special Plan for Civil Protection and Attention to Emergencies due to Volcanic Risk (Pevolca met today Saturday has recommended keeping the volcanic traffic light yellow in the Cumbre Vieja area, on La Palma, since the process continues and it is not ruled out that it may have a rapid evolution in the short term.
Experts have indicated that overall a low seismicity is maintained, although since 03:00 UTC (04:00 in the Canary Islands) after the occurrence of a magnitude 3.2 earthquake with intensity III, an intensification of seismicity has begun, with numerous earthquakes with events located both at depths of 6-8 km, and superficial (0-2 km).
In this stage, the committee considers the occurrence of felt earthquakes of greater intensity probable, which can cause damage to buildings. They can also cause rockslides in the surroundings of Puerto Naos (from La Bombilla to El Remo).
In addition, the experts pointed out that the deformations are still ongoing, maintaining the speed of yesterday, being compatible with a source of surface deformation. Nor have they ruled out the beginning of other phenomena observable on the surface (changes in temperature, odor and color of the water, abnormal behavior of animals, etc.).
