Therapist, immunologist Irina Yartseva revealed the features of the flu course after the coronavirus. She clarified in an interview with Radio Sputnik that COVID-19 weakens the body, so other infectious diseases can be more severe.
The specialist noted that the degree of damage in coronavirus plays a key role here, if the lungs are seriously damaged, then infections will be more difficult to carry in the future, especially when a person has not had time to recover. However, there is no reliable data on this yet, the expert added.
“If a person has not yet had time to recover and immediately falls ill, for example, with the flu, I assume that he may be more ill, it is more difficult to endure the infection,” Yartseva expressed her opinion.
She added that the coronavirus, like any other virus, affects the immune system, which, after an illness, acquires new, stronger properties and becomes stronger. The immunologist recalled the importance of vaccination not only against COVID-19, but also against influenza.
Earlier, the head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, warned that one should be wary of a mixed infection of influenza and coronavirus. The only way to avoid this is to get vaccinated. She said that in 2020, Russians practically did not get the flu, since 60 percent of the population was vaccinated against the infection. However, this year, she said, the immune layer of people who have protection against influenza viruses has become much smaller.
