Nacho Cano plans to build a 30-meter-high Aztec pyramid in Hortaleza

The musician Nacho Cano, a former member of Mecano, plans to build a Aztec pyramid of 29 meters high and nine floors, on a site in the Hortaleza neighborhood donated by the city council. It is a pharaonic project that will have 20,000 square meters built, of which half will belong to a parking lot and the other half to a colossal pyramid, inside which a theater will be located, with the latest advances in image and sound, which It will have capacity for more than 1,300 seats. It will be located at Machupichu avenue number 30, in front of the IFEMA fairgrounds.

The master lines of the theater have been advanced by the neighborhood newspaper of Hortaleza and confirmed by municipal sources, which indicate that they have been working on the idea for more than a year and hiring the necessary personnel to carry it out. The cost is projected at 11 million euros and the execution time, around nine months. Although not definitive, the plans indicate that the theater will be called Malinche, in honor of the indigenous woman who led the troops of Hernán Cortés in the conquest of Mexico, and that the opening show will be a musical, directed by Cano himself, in which his adventures during the conquest of America are narrated.

To carry out the project, Cano has created the mercantile Malinche The Musical Spain, SL, controlled by its parent company Malinche Productions based in the United States, and has important support such as real estate entrepreneur David Hatchwell, with a background at Goldman Sachs and HSBC, and the prestigious prosecutor Pablo Alarcon, of the Alarcón Espinosa law firm.

Sources close to the promoter indicate that Cano has been outlining this project for “almost a decade”, both the show and the construction of a palace to house it, and that his idea passesr premiere it in Madrid to later take it on a tour of Mexico and the United States. It would be, they continue, a musical “like never seen before, not even in Las Vegas”, full of light and sound effects and suitable for all audiences.

Criticisms of the opposition

The project has not caught up with the opposition, which has been criticizing for a few months Nacho Cano’s proximity to Madrid institutions. The musician was chosen to perform the act of tribute to the victims of the covid in the Puerta del Sol and hosted the president of the Community of Madrid in his mansion in Ibiza during the month of August, as published by various media. On this occasion he has been awarded the exploitation of the site, one of the best that the city council has and that in the past it was also transferred to the businessman José Luis Moreno, in a direct concession procedure, without competition.

More Madrid, the main opposition party in the city council, has already advanced that it will take the matter to the next municipal plenary session, since it considers it “a lack of respect for the rest of cultural creators” in the capital. They also regret that 2,500 square meters of green area will be occupied that are not included in the project and are not budgeted for. At the moment they have only obtained a response from the councilor Alberto serrano, from Citizens, that recalled that the project was presented to him nine months ago and that Cano admitted that with this project in Madrid “he is going to lose money.” “That seemed like a great show that wants to be shown on several continents at the same time. My contribution was that, since the catering they have in mind is Mexican, that at least they do not forget to put Extremadura ham.”
