State management argues that CoronaVac played a key role in the index, since eight out of 10 elderly people took the two doses of the immunizing agent across the country
the government of São Paulo stated this Wednesday, 15, that vaccination against Covid-19 reduced by 88% deaths of people over 70 years in Brazil. According to the state management, the numbers are part of a survey gathered from data from Sivep-Influenza (Influenza Epidemiological Surveillance Information System) of the Ministry of Health. The system shows that the weekly average of deaths of people over 70 years old from the disease in Brazil fell from 1.316 per day on March 28 to 164 on August 28th. The state government argues that CoronaVac played a key role in the index, since eight out of 10 elderly people took the two doses of the immunizing agent across the country. During the press conference, Hospital das Clínicas doctor Ho Yeh Li emphasized the importance of the Covid-19 vaccine in the age group and the need for a third dose. “Over the last two weeks, we have again observed the hospitalization of elderly people who had been vaccinated for more than six months. That’s why I wanted to make the most of it, to make almost an appeal to everyone, who, when it’s their turn, will take this vaccine”, said Ho Yeh Li. . In the 60 to 64 range, the percentage was 93.5%, above the defined goal of the campaign, which was at least 90% of the target audiences.
The State of São Paulo surpassed the mark of 58 million doses applied, being almost 36 million of first doses and 20 million of second ones. Thus, 97.38% of Paulistanos over 18 years old received at least one dose and 61.80% have the complete vaccination schedule. 112,746 elderly and immunosuppressed received the additional dose. On this Wednesday, the bed occupancy rate in the Intensive Care Unit is 32.86% in the State and 38.65% in Greater São Paulo. There are 2,565 people hospitalized in ICU beds and 2,805 in infirmary beds. Compared to the previous epidemiological week, the number of cases dropped by 70.5%, the number of hospitalizations a slight increase of 0.3% and the number of deaths dropped by 34.7%. “The slight increase in the number of hospitalizations is justified by an important demobilization of the number of beds. We demobilized so that we could accommodate and care for other illnesses. That’s why I ask you to pay attention to the absolute numbers”, said the Secretary of Health of the State of São Paulo, Jean Gorinchteyn.
