In the ongoing dispute over equal pay for men and women in the US national soccer teams, the US federation has brought a new idea into play. According to the association’s ideas published on Tuesday, there should be identical collective agreements for the men’s and women’s teams in the future. So far, both teams have negotiated their agreements independently.
The men’s has expired since December 2018, the women’s until the end of the year. Star Megan Rapinoe’s women’s team sued the association for discrimination in March 2019. The procedure is still ongoing. The women’s team receives significantly less money from the association than the men, especially when measured against the successes.
Most recently, the four-time Olympic champions won bronze at the Games in Tokyo thanks to a double pack from Rapinoe.
