US Open winner Emma Raducanu has not yet fully realized her sensational tennis triumph in New York on Saturday.
At least she can remember that she has now won a Grand Slam tournament. “It’s a funny feeling,” said the 18-year-old on Wednesday.
The Briton sees a secret for her triumph in the 18-month break from tennis before she even started on the WTA tour last June. Her parents insisted that she should finish her school career on a positive note during the intense pandemic phase.
“After that, I played every match like my last. That’s how I designed it all summer.” During the three weeks including qualifying at the US Open, she concentrated only on the respective opponent and on herself, which she simply did in all of her ten games that were decided without losing a set.
The appearances following her major coup made an impression on the teenager, especially the one on Monday night at the New York Met Gala (see tweet). When she will play tournaments again is of course still open. After the past intense weeks, she wants to gain a little distance for the time being.
“Maybe I’ll return to training early next week, I’m not sure,” said the now world number 23. to.
