The teenager addicted to Fortnite got to play up to 20 hours a day

A young man from Castelló de la Plana has been admitted to the Castelló Provincial Hospital for two months due to his addiction to the Fortnite game. The adolescent was abandoning all his activities from social relations, hygiene, food, changing his sleep routine and with total absenteeism from school.

The alerted family began a follow-up with the health services that decided to admit him applying isolation to achieve detoxification of his gambling addiction. One of the members of the Research Group on the mental health of children and adolescents of the Provincial Hospital of Castellón, Matías Real-López, has assured in an interview in Hoy por hoy Castellón, that the young man was hooked up to 20 hours a day.

The case has caused concern among the Castellón society when considering that addiction to video games and screens in general is a real problem in many families, although, for the moment, without reaching the extreme of having to reach a health treatment.

The young man was discharged after two months admitted to the Hospital. This case is the first clinical admission in the world in which a minor has had to be hospitalized for video game abuse.
