Satisfied Mark van Bommel: 'I saw a real team that you don't easily beat'

Wolfsburg had to continue with ten men for a long time, after John Anthony Brooks was sent to the dressing room half an hour before time with a red print. “It was a tough duel. If you play with one man less in an away game, you must be very happy when you conquer a point,” said the Dutch trainer after the press conference.

“It was not easy for the video referee. It depended on centimeters, but luckily he saw everything,” Van Bommel continued. Referee Danny Makkelie disallowed a goal from Jonathan David because video referee Blom had determined that the ball had gone out of bounds shortly before.

Deep in injury time, Makkelie pointed to the dot and Lille still thought they would go home with the win, but Blom prevented that. He ruled that the offense was committed outside the penalty area.

“If you can’t win, you have to play zero,” said Van Bommel. “Despite not having any chances to score, we did win a point against the champions of France in the end. I saw a real team that you don’t beat that easily.”
