Roger Torrent sits today before the judge and before Sánchez with a few hours of difference

The former president of the Parliament and current Labor Councilor, Roger Torrent, has a full day this Wednesday. In a matter of hours, he will go from declaring before the judge in the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia, to negotiating with Pedro Sánchez the celebration of a separatist referendum. Torrent is one of the politicians appointed by the president Pere Aragonès to be part of the Catalan delegation, as a member of ERC, at the negotiating table that will meet at the Palau de la Generalitat.

The Superior Prosecutor of Catalonia was responsible for filing the complaint against Roger Torrent, and three other members of the Catalan Chamber, for alleged disobedience to the Constitutional Court (TC) “for having allowed the processing of a series of motions related to the process independentista ». It was on March 1, a year and a half after the events occurred in the Parliament, despite the warnings from the Constitutional Court and the parliament’s lawyers who reminded them of the illegality of the debates they were promoting.

According to the complaint, in January 2020, the Constitutional Court agreed to suggest to the Prosecutor’s Office that it study the filing of a complaint against Torrent, for admitting during the month of October to process two resolutions in which the right to self-determination of Catalonia was claimed and rejected to the king. The High Court requested that the then head of Parliament be investigated for an alleged crime of disobedience to the judicial authority, allegedly ignoring the orders of the Constitutional Court.

The TSJC considered that these resolutions admitted by the Catalan Chamber violated the sentence of December 2, 2015, which annulled and annulled the declaration of November 9 in which the Parliament proclaimed the start of the process towards an independent state , for which he proceeded to open a legal proceeding against the deputies of JXCat and ERC who were part of the governing body of the Catalan Parliament. Together with Torrent, the former vice president will also have to go through the court Josep Costa and the former secretaries Adriana Delgado placeholder image and Eusebi Campdepadrós.

Despite the express warnings of illegality “made by the Secretary General of Parliament, the express opposition of the other members of the Bureau of Parliament, and knowing what was ordered and warned by the TC, the defendants Roger Torrent, the first vice president , Josep Costa, and the first secretary, Eusebi Camdepadrós, agreed to admit the aforementioned resolution proposal for processing ”, settling the explanatory statement with which the parties of the decision to cite the pro-independence politicians as investigated were fulfilled.

A delegation of ERC and JXCat leaders, including several members of the Government, will accompany those investigated to the doors of the TSJC, a few meters from the Palau de la Generalitat, at the same time as at the headquarters of the Catalan presidency Pere Aragonès meet with Pedro Sánchez. The coincidence of both appointments makes the Police fear that, at the end of the concentration in front of the judicial headquarters, some protesters may travel to Plaza Sant Jaume. It should be remembered that this weekend there were incidents and the burning of photographs of Sánchez and Aragonès in Barcelona.
