PSP starts on Thursday week of more inspection and control on the roads

The PSP intensifies from Thursday, until the 22nd, the inspection and control of risky behavior in driving, to prevent and reduce road accidents.

The operation, at the national level, includes increasing the visibility of road surveillance but also controlling risky behavior such as speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol or driving using a cell phone, performing dangerous maneuvers and not using a seat belt, announced the PSP in statement.

The operation, explains the PSP, comes as part of the European Day without a death on the road, which is marked on Thursday, but also the beginning of the European Mobility Week, which begins on the same day.

The European Day is designed to highlight the consequences of road accidents and the importance of awareness and road surveillance.

The European Week, until the 22nd, is dedicated to valuing sustainable mobility, to make European citizens aware of the importance of promoting changes in behavior, in particular reducing the use of private cars, promoting more sustainable urban mobility, recalls PSP .

According to the statement, this year until 15 August the PSP has registered 47 deaths as a result of road accidents. The number represents a reduction of 13% compared to 2020, when in the same period there were 54 deaths.

However, and comparing the same periods, there was a 10% increase in the number of accidents with victims (6,795 in 2020 and 7,470 in 2021), and a 12% increase in serious injuries (353 in 2020 and 394 in 2021). In light injuries there was also an increase of 11%.
