Peter Charleton from Australia won about 557,000 euros in the lottery. The man didn’t know what to do with the money. And instead of buying a yacht, he gave almost the entire sum away to his family, friends and strangers in need.
In August 2020, Australian Peter Charleton bought three lottery tickets. The man wasn’t actually a big lottery fan and the reason for the purchase was also a godsend.
On the YouTube show “My Big Story”, the 47-year-old said that one day he accidentally left his late uncle’s favorite pocket knife on the roof of his car. After an hour’s drive, the knife was miraculously still on the roof of the car. On such a lucky day, the Australian decided to get lottery tickets.
One out of three eventually turned out to be a winning ticket. Charleton won $ 896,511. The man only told his closest relatives and friends about his happiness.
After a few weeks, Charleton suddenly understood that he didn’t need the money for himself and didn’t want it. On Facebook, the Australian asked his friends, acquaintances and those who he said were in need for their account details and transferred almost the entire amount to other people. The man explained his deed by saying that the opportunity to help others gives him great pleasure:
“It is so much fun to be kind to others and to be able to help people. And when you are in a position where you have the money to do it, I think that if you don’t, you will be crazy.”
Charleton just bought a used car for himself and paid off his mortgage.
