Brutal narco threat: "Release the Monkeys or we kill all the prosecutors"

The trial against Ariel Máximo “Guille” Cantero, the head of the drug mafia Los Monos, imprisoned in the Marcos Paz prison, adds another dark chapter. This Monday afternoon, the Santa Fe 911 service received an anonymous call. The voice on the other end of the phone said: “Release the Cantero, release Los Monos or we will kill all the prosecutors,” according to sources from the provincial security agencies confirmed to Infobae.

Thus, the custody from the provincial Security Ministry with the Santa Fe Police to the judges and prosecutors who are part of the process were redoubled. They already had official protection, but more troops joined. The Criminal Justice Center where the process takes place is already monitored by federal forces.

Cantero, precisely, faces the Criminal Court of First Instance along with six members of his gang, accused of being the alleged perpetrators of at least ten attacks against the homes of officials and judicial institutions committed between May and August 2018 in that city of Santa Fe. The chief redoubled the bet before the magistrates and challenged everyone when he made his presentation at the hearing: “I have various jobs, I contract hitmen to shoot judicial judges.”

“Guille” is suspected in the trial of planning seven of the fifteen attacks on the homes of judges, police, judicial buildings and headquarters of the former Investigative Police (PDI). Prosecutors Matías Edery, Gastón Ávila, Miguel Moreno and Aníbal Vescovo requested 24 years in prison for Cantero for the crime of “coercive threats aggravated by being anonymous, by the use of a firearm, and by having as a purpose some measure or concession. of a member of the public power in ideal competition with qualified damage ”.

Unusually, Cantero’s cell in Marcos Paz was searched and a landline phone was found early last month. “It is a public telephone that works with a card, which is used by all inmates to speak with their families,” María Laura Garrigós de Rébori, inspector of the Federal Penitentiary Service, took refuge. A year earlier, his cell was searched daily, with a strong surveillance of the intelligence apparatus of the SPF, dismantled after the scandal of the wiretapping of Kirchner prisoners.

The story of the chief stonemason behind bars is much longer. He was even heard in 2020 contacting a hitman from the prison’s public phone. It was Maximiliano Damián Díaz, alias “Cachete”, a man with a long record, a collector and gunman, a thug in his gang, who was accused of being the mastermind of the armed attack on the City Center casino in Rosario that ended with a bank manager killed by a shot to treason.

The Federal Oral Court No. 3 of Rosario with judge Mario Gambacorta had already sentenced “Guille” at the end of October 2019 to another 10 years in prison for improper use of the telephone, so to speak, they found him guilty of directing a kidnapping extortion with a clandestine cell phone from the Coronda prison in Santa Fe in September 2017. His lieutenants screwed him up as a victim: they took the son of a butcher.

They had already given him 22 years in April 2018 at the end of the trial of his clan for illicit association, the final hearing was in the Criminal Sentencing Court No. 1 of Rosario, with one hundred policemen guarding the building and snipers of the Troops Special Operations stationed on the roofs. That same year, for another drug cause, they gave him 15 more years.

The new threat, which is being investigated by the Justice with the Flagrancy Unit in turn with measures that were ordered on the line that made the call, darkens the panorama even more.
